Quarter 1 (Q1) Grades and Parent Teacher Conferences

Hello Cheiftain families,

Last Friday, November 6, 2015 ended the Quarter 1 marking period.  As of Tuesday, November 10, 2015, your student’s grades, attendance and citizenship have been updated in Power School and are now available for you to view.  Next week, you will have an opportunity to discuss those grades and your student’s progress with their teachers at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences at Utica High School are scheduled for:
·         Wednesday, November 18th 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
·         Thursday, November 19th 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
·         Thursday, November 19th 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Conferences will be held in the gymnasium and the cafeteria. Teachers will be seated in alphabetical order.

Parents should access or print their student’s Quarter 1 grades from Power School prior to conferences. You should discuss your students Quarter 1 (Q1) grade and citizenship with him/her prior to attending conferences. This will allow questions at conference to be more focused on moving your child’s learning forward, and capitalizing on successes while focusing on areas of challenge.  On Power School you can see your student’s grades, attendance, and delve into why the grade s are where they are including missing and incomplete work, test scores, etc.

You can access the parent portal at https://ps.ucs.misd.net/public and if you need to register for Power School, you can find that information at http://uticak12.org/parentportalinfo/ and can register at school during regular hours of operation.

Along with our teachers, I look forward to these conferences because it gives all of us an opportunity to discuss something very important – your student’s educational progress.  Direct communication between the parent and teacher is an important part of your student’s success.  This is the time when you can meet face-to-face with your student’s teachers to learn of their achievements, as well as areas needing improvement.  At these sessions, you can share information about your student that will assist the teachers.  No one knows your student better than you, and your expertise is valued.

In order to make sure that parents have an opportunity to meet with all of their student’s teachers, please limit your conference to five minutes.  If you need additional meeting time with a teacher, please feel free to make an appointment.

Thank you for your continued interest in your student’s educational experience at Utica High School.  If I can be of assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Tom
