Progress Reports and PSAT

Good afternoon Chieftain Families,

Last Friday was the 5 week mark and brings us to progress report time. As you know, we’ve worked hard to reduce waste and cost over the past few years at Utica High.  This year, we will not be sending Progress Reports home unless specifically requested.  Then, we will send them home with your student.  Power School gives parents the ability to check progress at any time.  The PowerSchool login page and information can be found at:

Teachers have until Tuesday morning to place final work into their Power School gradebooks.  If you don’t have a Power School Parent Portal login, you can come into UHS between 6:45 am and 3:30 pm and the office staff will be happy to help you retrieve that.  If you would like a paper copy, please have your student stop at the main office or our office in counseling, and they can pick up a copy!

This Wednesday, October 14, all of our Juniors will be taking the PSAT, or Practice SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test).  Starting in 2016, the SAT will be the new test that all Michigan Public School students take for college entrance and as an assessment of learning in 11th grade.  This is a new version of the PSAT and will be the first practice test students have for the redesigned SAT.  Parents can find more on that redesign here. Though we offer practice assessments on the new Naviance system, the best place for practice assessment is Khan Academy. Khan Academy is working directly with the College Board to design preparation that is more up-to-date than any other sources, and is completely free.  Once students take their PSAT, results will be transferred via their College Board account login to the Khan Academy partner site to give them personalized instruction to prepare for the SAT in April.

While the Juniors are testing, the Seniors and Sophomores will be engaged in presentations and Team Building activities.  For seniors, they will here speakers on Dressing for Success and Interviewing, Drug Prevention and Positive Decision making, and a panel of recent graduates discussing what they wish they knew before heading to college.  For sophomores, they will have a morning of Team Building activities led by teachers, and will hear a similar talk about positive decision making and drug prevention.

We’re excited about a great program on Wednesday.  We look forward to all of our students being there and getting the most out of it!
